Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves was back in Hollywood this past weekend to attend the 2008 ALMA Awards.
Castroneves joined fellow “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity Cristian de la Fuente to present the “Outstanding Actor in a TV Comedy” award. The show is scheduled to air on September 12th on ABC.
The ALMA Awards was created by National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., in 1995 as part of its strategy to promote the diverse, accurate, and balanced portrayals of Latinos in the media and the enhancement of the Latino image in the entertainment industry. The show is an example of how inclusion strengthens the entertainment industry.
The evening also included performances by the Black Eyed Peas, John Secada and Brian McKnight, Lisa Lisa and Sergio Mendes.
Other celebrity participants included Paula Abdul, Jessica Alba, Cheryl Burke, Oscar De La Hoya, Placido Domingo, Zac Efron, Ryan Seacrest, America Ferrera, Daisy Fuentes, Selena Gomez, MARIO, Joey Medina, Carlos Mencia, Edward James Olmos, Adam Rodriguez, Rosalyn Sanchez, and Charlie Sheen.
“Wow, what a fantastic event,” said Castroneves. “It was an incredible honor to be invited to present an award at this year’s ceremony. I think the ALMA Awards are a very important evening for the Latin community in the United States, and I am certainly proud to have been affiliated with it. The NCLR has done a great job with this event, and I definitely hope to be a part of it for years to come.”

Helio, You did a super job as presenter at the ALMA awards.Funny, lovable, looked fantastic. Also the camera caught a nice shot of you in the audience during America Ferrera’s acceptance speech. Hope to see you in more shows. DWTS will never be the same without you.

I first saw you on Dancing with Stars. I am a dancer, my husband is a racing fan( aka a retired Kindergarten teacher and spouse is a Doctor) I asked him if he had ever heard of you and, Oh, Yes! So , when no one else would go to Infinion today with my husband,
I went through hours of boredom and wind and then heat, JUST to see you drive and make my husband happy.
Congratulations………I knew you would win just so I could see you climb the fence, that you somehow found there. Thank You.

OMG!..I had so much fun watching helio win today!..I watch the races on yahoo with my 2 buds that live in Phoenix….Being that they are guys and I’m a gal, they were giving me a bad time, telling me that he was gonna run out of gas, his car was gonna break on the last lap..Stuff like that. One of my buds taught me all about auto racing 4 years ago..now I never miss one. Open wheel is my fave and Helio is my very favorite driver. I met Julianne when she was in Idaho for her sisters recital. she’s a great little gal. I got 2 autographed pictures of her because, she spelled my name wrong on the 1 st one. I gave her a message for Helio, I wonder if he ever got it?…LOL Helio..thanks so much for the great win today and thanks for making my day so much brighter. Hugs to you and yours…..Patti
