I’m back in Miami, after this wonderful weekend. It all started with running strong at the practices with the awesome car Team Penske gave me. Then on Saturday came the pole!
But the greatest part of the weekend was Sunday, with the victory! Awww, finally!!! Has been soooo long!
I got so excited that I ran to the crowd, never done that before, but it was great!
Now we have to keep the momentum for next weekend (Detroit), and fight for the championship.
I want to Thank all the fans, for everything!! The cheers and the words of expiration, it is great to see/hear/read all the good things everyone has to say, that cheers me up! Thanks guys!

I am stunned and saddened to find out what you are going through and it sickened me to hear how you were treated. I don’t know the details, of course, but I think the restraints that were used in court were extreme. You definitely have my support. I am behind you 110% and if there was anything I could do to show that support, I will.

Congratulations on your wins at Sonoma and Chicagoland! You are truley a fantastic driver. My husband and I have never been racing fans. Then as so many other new Indy fans we watched you dance your way to the top on “Dancing with the Stars”. We looked forward to seeing that smile and infectous personality every week. So we decided to sit down and watch you race the Indy 500 and have been hooked ever since. We have gone to 3 races this year and have stood in the fan line each time. We were so happy to see that you are really the person we saw on the show, so full of enthusiasm. You make my heart smile. Our kids wonder about mom and dad now, they are not use to us enjoying a sport so much let alone racing.Well our son use to say “My dad has a desk job and my mom is a race car driver”. Yes I’ve been known to go a little fast.Anyway. we are planning our race trips for next year and hope to be at the Indy 500,and hope to see you climb the fence.

Acho que não preciso dizer o quanto a sua corrida foi linda, excelente e emocionante, como a maioria já disse por aqui. Realmente foi a melhor corrida que já vi em toda a minha vida, também. O que vc fez foi espetacular. Não somente o fato de largar e último e chegar em primeiro, mas por demonstrar toda a garra, força e talento que você tem.
Acompanho sua trajetória nessa categoria, e sei que o seu momento chegará. Você está muito próximo de ser campeão, e é o que esperamos.
Mesmo a formula Indy não tendo muita visibilidade aqui no Brasil, não deixo de assistir a uma corrida, e acho que é a melhor categoria do automobilismo.

Watching the race with my family… we were all on the edge of our seats. Way to go, such an awesome driver. I can’t wait until next year. Also thanks for always being so nice to your fans. I got a chance to see you in Edmonton and you were super nice, and it’s nice to hear you thank the fans during your interviews. I know there’s technically one more race, but have a great off season and all the best next year. Like I said, I can’t wait.

Wow, what an exciting finish on Sunday! I was on the edge of my seat. You had quite a challenge coming from last place to win the race. You got so close to the championship and I was hoping you would clench it, but you drove fantastic and your team was great. I don’t know what else you could have done better. You and your team did an awesome job and it paid off. Congratulations!

Helio, I have to pass this along to you. First of all congratulations on your season so far this year. We crossed paths last week in Detroit, literally. I’m a member of the Corvette Club of Michigan, and was walking in the paddock area with some fellow club members (one, who is a big fan) You were coming the towards us on one of the team motor bikes and before we had a chance to react - you were gone. The member I was with would be so excited if I were able to get her an autographed poster of you - and I would really appreciate it. Please reply as to how this can be arranged.

Olá Hélio. Faz um tempão que eu queria te escrever, mas eu achei que o Tony Kanaan ia ficar com ciúme rs. Explicando isso melhor, bom, desde 2004 eu conheci o Tony e gostei dele, comecei a torcer pela carreira e tal, mas só em 2007 eu comecei a assistir a formula indy de fato, sem perder nenhuma corrida e postando comentarios no site dele todas as etapas até hj. Mas hj, dia especial (07/09 Chicago), ja que foi a corrida mais legal de todas as que eu ja vi na minha vida e, tambem, a corrida de enceramento da temporada 2008, eu tinha que escrever pra vc.
Essa foi a melhor corrida que ja vi e nao foi sobre o Tony, foi sobre o Helio Castroneves (seu nome soa muiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiito legal rs), entao, vc que merece que eu poste um comentario. Cara, sem palavras. Nada do q eu diga vai expressar o valor do que voce fez hj como piloto, saindo la de traz na pior posicao de largada, para a melhor posicao que poderia estar, a primeira. Foi inacreditavelmente demais.
Era pra eu ter escrito pra vc desde a sua vitoria no DWTS porque eu ja tinha acompanhado o Dancing anterior com o Joey Fatone, o cantor que eu mais gosto na vida e ai, logo depois, vc estava fazendo parte do programa, nao pude deixar de assistir.
Infelizmente eu sei pouco de voce como piloto pq eu vejo mais de perto o Tony, mas como pessoa que vc é, eu conheci um pouco no DWTS e ja era pra ter postado meu carinho sobre isso. Vc é um cara muito alegre, gente boa mesmo, um doce de pessoa, adorei a forma que vc tratou a Julianne, vc é muito especial pelo q pareceu no Dancing e dançou muito bem. Depois de ver sua maneira de ser e o que vc fez na corrida de hj, acho q o tony ta quase perdendo minha torcida rs

I have to admit, I hadn’t been a racing fan prior to learning about your sport while watching Dancing with the Stars, but I’ve become a fan of yours due to your positive attitude and wonderfully inspirational personality. You are one of a kind!
Last December I was fortunate enough to visit Brazil where my oldest daughter had studied, met the love of her life, and invited me to join them and meet his family. It was a fantastic trip, and I have fallen in love w/ Brazil and the people who love life completely!
My daughter and her now husband hope to come home to the U.S. soon. He is awaiting paperwork to travel here, and anxiously waits to meet our family and see the U.S.

Eu já conhecia vocÊ de nome, mas devo confessar que só fui me interessar mais pela Indy quando vi você no Dancing with the Stars (que assisto pela internet ou baixando - não conte pra ninguém… heheheh), porque, como você sabe, a maioria dos brasileiros acompanham mais outra categoria de automobilismo.
Como todo fã de velocidade, fiquei muito contente pelo seu resultado nessa temporada. Foram muitas corridas emocionantes e eu acompanhei boa parte delas, mas ainda estou aprendendo muitas coisas da Indy.

I just wanted to say that the penalty last night was so wrong! I was so proud of the way you did not say anything to the media afterwards except to be polite as you always are… I hoped this morning that it would all be put right and you would be awarded the race win which was so rightfully yours but it was not to be… I know that in the next race you will give everything and I hope that you get the luck you deserve.
I am a UK fan and I shall never forget seeing American racing at our Rockingham circuit! I followed you on the dancing programme too and thought you were fantastic.

Helio, if I may express myself freely, I’d like you to know that your spirit has been a blessing to me. For many years I have suffered with chronic pain. Over the last few years I gradually gave up trying to make life meaningful when the most menial tasks became more like hard work for me. When I saw your exuberance for life when you competed on Dancing With The Stars, it lifted my spirit so much that I could not resist smiling each time I saw you smile. Your joyful spirit inspired me to want to find that kind of joy again in my own life. It wasn’t easy to reach that conclusion because it is more difficult to overcome adversity once your spirit breaks and you have already given up trying. My pain had caused me to forget that our spiritual gifts are inextricably linked to our experiences in this life and that no one can have one without first having the other. Even though your happy spirit seemed just too good to be true, I envied it.
I asked my husband to take me to the race in Sonoma this year. My husband was always a fan of open wheel racing but it took someone like you to get me to pay attention to it. I also wanted to see you up close to get a sense of your real spirit. To do that, I had to overcome my fear of the physical pain such an event would definitely cause me. Having second thoughts, I had almost written off the cost of the special passes we purchased just to stay home. But my spirit told me it was now or never and I needed to make a change in my attitude about life. Before now, nothing seemed worth the inconvenience for to me to pursue it. But the chance of seeing your smile in person was worth about any kind of risk to me. When I was there in Sonoma, I had the chance to look directly into your eyes and recognized that you go deeper than what most of your fans get to see. Seeing that gave me a realistic perception of both you and myself. I believe that until you can see yourself in someone else you have no relationship to them, in the spiritual sense–in Christ. When I saw myself in you it gave me a new lease on life in every respect–emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Suddenly I want to dance again, figuratively speaking, and I have the will to do it. My life has taken on a renewed desire to make my life something meaningful in the context of my personal circumstances and not in comparison to others. When I looked into your eyes I realized everyone has their cross to bear, even the seemingly most perfect individuals among us, and that the whole being of each one of us cannot be perceived through anyone’s outward appearance. “If your eye is simple, your whole body will be bright.”(Matthew 6) In Sonoma last week, I saw how bright you truly are and from the bottom of my heart I pray that God might bless you further still, because, as the apostle Paul wrote: when one member of Christ’s body suffers the whole body suffers with it; and when one member of Christ’s body is glorified all the other members rejoice with it. (First Corinthians 12:26)

You are always very positive.Your positivity shines through not only during a race but also in the interviews you give and your interaction with your fans. You epitomize great sportsmanship and you are the true winner of today’s race. Anyone with good moral judgement clearly sees that. You’ve been knocking at that door and you walked through it in Sonoma. You’ll not only walk through that door in Chicago, you’re going to fly through it and lock it up behind you. Helio I am so disappointed in the race today! You were running such a good race and it was yours! First of all, I can’t believe that Justin was pushing so much. I can understand a driver wanting a win, but with all that is at stake for the championship, I just don’t understand! And I don’t understand the call that was made. I can recall several races when Dixon was in the lead and “blocking” and I don’t believe a “warning” was ever issued. Is the IRL rule book posted anywhere online?? Helio you are a great driver and please don’t let this affect you in Chicago! You have so many fans cheering you on and wanting to see the championship be yours. Looking forward to next weekend!!!!
First I want to say congrats on runnig a great race and always being the gentleman you are. Todays race was a joke, blocking, really? I want everyone to be safe and when a dangerous move happens it needs to be addressed. I did not see that happen. I saw a drive defending his spot on the track, that’s it. Politics need to stay at the conventions and off the race track. Your win Helio, on and off the track. Chicago here you come!

The call was total crap, you have every right to be angry, but just know that all your fans are so proud of you anyway and still standing behind you. You must be so frustrated by what happened today in Detroit. It sure couldn’t have been much fun to be forced to let someone pass you when you were racing for the Championship. What was the point of the “magic rings” when you’re foced to do that? Early on here in Indianapolis (which is the only place I’ve watched any racing live) if you could keep the lead away from the guy behind you…then it meant you were a better driver than him. We all know who the best driver was out there today. You already are a Champion to us. You just have to trust God that whatever happens next is His will. Don’t let it spoil your wonderful personality or your outlook on life. You just keep right on having as much fun as you can, and stay safe in Chicago. We all love you!

I’m a huge DWTS fan and got a kick out of you on the show last year, so I decided to check out Indy Car. Now I’m hooked, I know all the drivers and their cars, and I have to work my weekend schedule around the races. I’m curious to know if they use parts from cars which have already raced or is the car 100% new when you get it for a race? Also, do you have to do exactly what Tim C. tells you to do or can you make decisions about how you want to run the race? Maybe you could answer those questions on your blog sometime. Also, keep that rosary with you, but don’t forget to pray it once in awhile.

Hi Helio, I really enjoyed the race this weekend and am still smiling about the incredible win. Hollywood could not write this script but you could definitely star in it. I was really bummed about the fire last week and didn’t expect such a wonderful outcome though if there is a team out there who could pull it off it is Penske. They proved how far above the norm they are and are a real tribute to Roger Penske’s insistence on excellence. I must say, Helio, you are also a tribute to excellence. So many drivers would have cratered or complained or blamed somebody for the bad luck but you kept on pushing and working and keeping the faith. I never watched IRL except the 500 but you have kept me glued to the TV just to see your beautiful smile and amazing attitude. Thank you for making my year.CAC
