Castroneves and teammate Ryan Briscoe outpaced the rest of the cars to finish first in the Le Mans Prototype 2 Class.
Briscoe started the 10-hour, 1,000-mile race, but Castroneves took the driver’s seat during the third-hour at 2:19 p.m. At the time, the duo’s No. 5 Porshe RS Spyder was the overall leader, and led the Le Mans Prototype 2 Class.
At one point, Castroneves was as far back as fifth place, and after driving for a little over two hours, he gave the reins back to Briscoe. Briscoe vaulted up the standings, going head to head with Romain Dumas for the lead in the LMP2 Class.
The remaining 3 hours of the race were driven by Helio, who took the No. 5 Porshe RS Spyder Prototype to the finish line in first place.
Helio and Ryan climbed a short fence, and celebrated at the winner’s circle.

You are so amazing! You truly have a strong faith in God to be able to focus that well to win the race with Ryan, despite this difficult times. It was so funny to see you and Ryan climb a short fence…regardless, now that will also be Ryan’s signature like yours when winning 1st place (LMP2) at Petit Le Mans. Do we call Ryan “Spiderman2″? since you are the original Spiderman of IRL. We also posted Congratulations to you, Ryan and Team Penske in the Penske forum.
I absolutely loved watching you two climb the fence together. You and Ryan make such a great team and seem to have such a wonderful respect for one another. You both did a fabulous job and I’m so proud of you ending last week with a bang!
Congratulations Helio on winning the race last weekend. It must be very hard to perform to the 100% that you give to the fans each race with the troubles that you have at the moment.
I am wishing every day that you will come through all of this unscathed and will return to the race track as our hero once more..

You are my latest inspiration for my latest feat. I’m trying to make the top 10 in my class (I’m a junior and in 12th right now) and become a National Merit Scholar. I’m using your mentality to get what I want.
Helio - this win could not have happened to a better guy nor could it have come at a better time. I was there at Sonoma to see your win on 8/24…what a performance, in a backup car! You were quite busy as usual before the race but you took the time to sign my hat. You are a class act and a true gentleman. What they’re putting you through is horrible, but know that you have many thousands of us behind you and it will all work out in the end. Hang in there, my friend…all the best!

Helio, you and Ryan won a stunning victory on Saturday! You two Indycar drivers piloted those very cool Porsche RS Spyders just like you drove them every single day. Wow! We were in the stands at Chicagoland to watch you win one of the most exciting Indy races I have
ever seen. Watching you carve your way through the pack was awesome! Also saw the ALMS race over
the weekend on Speed-great job! Seeing you shackled and handcuffed was disgusting to many people
born and raised in this country-I don’t know what the government was thinking but it reeked!!!
