EDMONTON, Alberta – Helio Castroneves didn’t want to hear any residual boos from Paul Tracy fans this weekend during the Rexall Edmonton Indy. So the Team Penske driver took a proactive approach – wearing an “I (heart) Canada” T-shirt with Tracy’s No. 15 inserted in the maple leaf heart at the circuit.
The reigning Indianapolis 500 champion wasn’t the most popular IndyCar Series driver in Toronto two weeks ago when his car got tangled up with Tracy’s as they competed for second place late in the race on the Exhibition Place course. Sustained boos – something the effervescent Castroneves isn’t used to hearing – rained when he returned to pit lane.
“I will use it most of the weekend,” he said. “I admire the fans. They’re supporting their people and that’s the way it should be.”
Both Tracy and Castroneves said the incident was “one of those racing things.”
“He’s the last person I would want to tangle with,” Castroneves laughed. “It’s unfortunate because it cost me a lot of points in the championship. That’s what people sometimes don’t understand. I was just trying to finish the race.”

Helio, started to watch the race in Ohio but I had to attend church . Read about what happened, glad you are ok.
Good Luck Good Luck Good Luck at Kentucky!!!!
You had a great Media Tour in California! Many Fans..
It looked like you had some fun yesterday waiting for water to dry!!!!
You’re the Best!

Awesome news about the schedule for the 2010 season! Sounds like March 14th will be a great day next year for you, TK, Mario, Raphael, and, hopefully, Vitor. Hometown boys!
Hopefully, my parents will get the message that I want to go to the race at TMS for graduation (I graduate from high shcool on June 4th). Will definately try to come meet you again.
Hopefully, there will be no problems with the track tomorrow and you will scale a fence tomorrow night!
It should be fun for you to get to race in Brazil in 2010. Should be exciting for us fans too.
YYYEEESSS !!! Prova no Brasil confirmada para 2010!!! MMMuuuiiitttooo boa notícia!!! Estarei lá, com certeza, aonde for…
Te desejo um bom qualifying (se é que vai ter hoje…) e ótima prova amanhã, estou sempre na torcida, tenha certeza!!!
Até mais,
Sounds like “weepers” are causing y’all some problems today. Oh well. I’m sure the wet track isn’t dampening your spirits.
Can’t wait for tomorrow night’s race. Let’s see if you can improve your position from last week and get the win you would’ve gotten last year if you hadn’t run out of gas (and if Dixon hadn’t been so close behind you).
Have fun tomorrow night, be safe, and go for the win! Even if you are a longshot at the title, you can take gambles Dixon, Dario, and Ryan can’t and go for some wins and climb some fences.
Good luck in the qualifications and the race.
Just go out there and do what you do best.
Enjoy, be fast and be safe.
And just remember, you are always our champion,
no matter what your race position or standing.
Keep the faith, we have faith in you.
Best of luck in the qualifications and the race.
Hi Helio,
I am so excited; it’s soooo hard to be here at work. We are all packed and ready to leave in the morning for Kentucky. So looking forward to watching the qualifying and practices for both Indy Car,Indy Lights (We’re rooting for Anna in the Indy Lights)as well as fanfare.
I’m going wear the shirt I wore to the Indy 500 that you, Kati and Eduardo thought was pretty cool. Hope the weather is good this weekend. Take care,Drive Safe but FAST,See Ya tomorrow. In Oct. Tom and I will be driving on the same track. BIG HUG from Rhonda
Hi Helio! I finally got to watch the race and have to say that the pass you made on Dixon was the only positive excitement in the entire race. I asked my husband, who watched the race earlier than I did, what he thought and he also thinks that was the only racing highlight. I’m looking forward to a more exciting race this weekend. I hope you’re okay with your 2nd place finish. In your post race interview you seemed a little bit solemn to me. I’m sure you have already thrown what was affecting your mood at that moment off your back and you’re focused on your next race. Don’t give up on those points yet, Helio. Considering all things affecting your standing this season, you are still a race leader to me. Best Wishes! for a great race next weekend. I’ll be cheering for you from my sofa. Peace be with you.

Hi Helio -
CONGRATULATIONS on your Edmonton podium finish P2. At least it’s a teammate who is on P1 though I rather had you on first position. As you always say, P2 is also good. THAT WAS A GREAT PASS YOU DID ON SCOTT – HOORAY!!!
Very sorry to hear about Tony’s accident. I’m praying that that will be the end of his bad luck!
I’m looking forward to another win for you in Kentucky this Saturday. Win , race fast but safe!!! Everything adds up to your total points for the leaderboard.
BTW – you are the greatest PR guy in IRL! I hope the Canadians love you now that you came up with that shirt!
Hugs from your So CA fan.
First a note to CNR: I’m going back to my old email address because my husband informed me he will soon disconnect our private domain account since he’s moving it to Facebook.
Helio, I’m happy to hear that you had a podium finish and I’m anxious to watch the pass on Dixon mentioned by some other fans. I am away from home and won’t be able to watch the race until Thursday when I return. For that reason I’ve stayed away from my temptation to see the race results before I could watch. Then I was informed of Tony’s burns and Felipe Massa’s serious injury during Formula One qualifying, I couldn’t stop myself from searching out what happened to each of them and to follow up on their current status. As hard as I tried to find an article only about Tony, it revealed the race results from the beginning. I’m glad he is going to be okay and Thank God for Team Penske’s pit crew’s fast action. I plan to search for today’s update on Felipe’s condition. My heart just broke when I heard what happened to him. The strangest things can create so much danger in racing. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anything like what happened to him. My prayers are with him and his family at this time.
My daughter’s back and needs her laptop back. Excuse any typos as I’m unaccustomed to the keyboard. Once more, Congratulations on you podium finish.
Kelly, Tucson, AZ.
nice race on sun!!! go HELIOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Hi Helio,
No tangles this time! Just wanted offer my KUDOS for your 2nd place finish…I just laugh everytime I see you. You’re too funny! Nice to see a guy having fun out there.
I know that the championship might be a long shot for you, but not nearly as long for you as for Dale Jr…so hang in there!
Have a great season…
Hi Helio,
Great race it was great when you passed Dixon to come in second. We were yelling for you to go. You passed perfectly. Will did a great job also. Team Penske 1 and 2 was great. Too bad Ryan wasn’t in the mix. He had a great race also. We would have loved for you to be #1 but #2 is fabulous. Have a great week and see you next week at Kentucky. Take Care =)
Dave and Deb
WOW—Helio—what a great pass!! Perfect!!
From all the photos I’ve seen from Edmonton, you seemed to have a lot of fun. Including the Podium…they were very funny!
You’re the Best!
your fan
Still excited for you Helio. Even though the championship is a longshot this year, you and #3 team can do something the #6, #9, and #10 teams can’t – take a gamble to get somewins.
Let us know if you check on your buddy TK this week and if you see him in person, give him a big hug from us.
Good race yesterday. I’m happy you were on the podium. Looking forward to the night time race next week. Good luck to you.
Congratulations on your 2nd place finish, even though I know you wanted to win. Excellent pass on Dixon!!!
Good luck this weekend in Kentucky. I look forward to another great race, but this time with you as the winner. Please stay safe out there. We love you!
Kelli in Las Vegas
Good comeback this week with a 2nd place finish.Loved the move of the race you put on Dixon,I’m sure he wasn’t happy but your fans were cheering loudly as you left him in the dust!A few more like that and you can be at the top again………don’t give up ‘cos we’re not.
Now its onto Kentucky for some “real” racing,a great track and an under the lights action type race.Looking foreward to it and to see you on the podium again.Nice to see Penske 1,2 but it would have been better for Ryan to have joined that group instead of Dixon! Will is doing a great job, hopefully he can hold his own on the ovals too.
Loved the Canada tee shirt, hopefully it softened the Edmonton fans up a little.Hopefully the Moraes fans were booing loudly yesterday instead.
Great Race Helio. Great move on Scott for second place. To bad Ryan’s car was having trouble with his car at the end. Take Care and have a safe trip back from Canada. BIG HUG from Rhonda
Great Race!! Helio’s got his groove back!!
Helio, Congratulations on 2nd place in Edmonton. You ran a hell of a good race!
Helio, congrats on your P2 podium! You drove an awesome and impressive race today – that pass on Dixon was a thing of beauty! Again, congratulations to you, Helio, your Black Knights, and to the entire Team Penske!
Penske 1-2. Would’ve preferred you to be #1, but from I heard, Will dominated all race long. 2nd to a teammate’s good.
I knew Roger had made a good choice when he tapped Will to fill in for you earlier this year. He’s done a great job despite having a limited schedule.
Now on to Kentucky. You can climb a fence this time around.
Ugh, it is SO hard for me to watch with Will leading and you behind him. You had an absolutely awesome pass on Dixon to get into 2nd. I don’t want anything bad to happen to Will but really wanted you to get first. But 2nd is good too, GREAT job today Helio. xoxo
Go get em Racing Champion….eh
Things are looking really good for a podium win for you today, Helio! Just stay glued to that fast, fast track! As always….
GOOD LUCK & GODSPEED!
BE QUICK!
MOST IMPORTANT, STAY SAFE OUT THERE!!

BE QUICK!
MOST IMPORTANT, STAY SAFE OUT THERE!
Great practice, good luck with qualifying. I want to see you and Ryan in the top 2 spots! xoxo
Love the shirt, love the idea behind it!
Helio, love the shirt. You have a true forgiving spirit. Many guys would have a hard time being so gracious after the incident in Indy but you just keep on giving. Race hard but safe this weekend and hope to see you on the podium. The fans in Canada will love the sentiment and maybe won’t notice when you leave their guy in the dust.
Excellent job in practice Helio! Keep that up and you’ll make the Firestone Fast Six for sure! You’ve haven’t been in it all year. Need to break that streak.
I’m just curious: why did you just slip you’re “I Heart Canada” shirt over your Team Penske polo? Not the most flattering style for you.
It’s OK though. You are still handsome and cute as ever.
Helio, The shirt is very funny. Just like you to smooth things over with Canadian fans. Another reason you are such a great guy!!!! Good luck this week-end.
Oh that’s too funny! LOL…You have such a great sense of humor.
I bet even Tracy would have a good laugh. Canada just feel the love…..
Best of luck in the quals.
Helio,
Cute t-shirt. Forget about the boos from Toronto. Can’t wait to watch the race this weekend. You’ll make up the points on Sunday. Drive fast but Safe Sunday. Next weekend you will be in Kentucky and you will hear pleanty of yea’s from all your fans. BIG HUG from Rhonda
Helio,
That is an awesome shirt. I am a Canuck, and You and Paul were my picks to win the Toronto race. I am from Toronto now living in Lauderdale. We flew up to Toronto to see you guys do battle again. Thanks for signing my my wifes shirt while you we walking back in the paddock on Saturday. Good Luck in Edmonton, see ya at Homestead later this year.
That’s funny but good tactic (shirt), Helio! (LOL). Am truly hoping the Canadians will love you now. We are always on your side~~~~~~ Hugs from So CA.
Love the shirt Helio.
Good luck this weekend. I’ll be pulling for you.
