Last year, we had quite a race in Chicagoland! Due to a penalty during qualifying, I had to start in the back of the field. We were able to work our way up to the front and I actually ended up leading the most laps on my way to victory. That race was especially exciting, because not only did I win after starting last, but we also had a photo finish in what turned out to be the second closest margin of victory in IndyCar Series history.
We had a tough race in Sonoma last weekend and it’s going to take a lot of luck for me to win the title. But, I never give up and we’re going to go for it this weekend. Hopefully, Chicago will be as good to me in 2009 as it was last year and we can make up some ground in the point standings. If I can’t win the Championship this season, I’m going to do all I can to help out my teammate, Ryan, as he goes for his first Series title.
So here is the schedule for the weekend:
QUALIFYING: Fri, August 28 – 6 pm ET on VERSUS
RACE: Sat, August 29 – 9 p.m. on VERSUS

No ano passado, tivemos uma corrida e tanto em Chicagoland! Devido a uma penalidade durante a qualificação, eu tive que largar em útlimo lugar. Fomos capazes de trabalhar o nosso caminho até a frente e eu acabei liderando o maior número de voltas no meu caminho para a vitória. Essa corrida foi especialmente emocionante, porque não só eu venci após largar em último, mas nós também tivemos uma chegada emocionante que veio a ser a segunda chegada mais próxima na história da IndyCar Series.
Tivemos uma corrida difícil em Sonoma na semana passada e vamos precisar de muita sorte para faturar o título. Mas, eu nunca vou desistir e nós estamos indo com tudo neste fim de semana. Esperemos que, Chicago será tão bom para mim em 2009, como foi no ano passado e possamos ganhar bastante pontos no campeonato. Se eu não puder ganhar o campeonato nesta temporada, eu vou fazer de tudo possível para ajudar meu companheiro de equipe, Ryan, já que ele também está buscando seu primeiro título da série.
Então aqui está o calendário para o fim de semana:
TOMADA DE TEMPO: Sexta, 28 de Agosto – 19:00 pm (horário de Brasilia) no site www.indycar.com
CORRIDA: Sábado, 29 de Agosto 29 – 22:45 na Bandeirantes

There is no doubt that you would have won the race
if that suspension had not broken. I was just glad
that you came out of the crash okay.

Wow Helio I hope you are feeling better. You were doing so well and I think you could have
pulled it off but not to be again.
Maybe the next two will be good for you. I’m just happy you are out here and able to compete
at all. Even if you came in last is better than what could have been.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of you as Grand Marshal of the Bed Race. Tom had me listen to the interview on my way home from work today. Hope your foot is feeling better. We are thinking of coming to Homestead for the Champion Race. I really hate flying so I’m trying to get my nerve up. I just don’t want to have a panic attack and freak people out. We’ll see. Maybe I can be heavily medicated now that I don’t have to worry about losing kids at the airport.

I did not know you were hurt from the crash….hope you get better soon…when your there for real in the stands you dont here all the details….also unless your lookin at the car you dont see it crash…you guys go fast…anyway….get better and all luck and respect in japan…….david
Helio – you were racing so good until that technical problem. Hope your foot is better now. Bet you’ll enjoy that next race – bed race??? Well, need some fun sometime! Then to Motegi, Japan. Hoping you’ll have better luck there and the next. Always praying for safe and winning race for you. I know you never give up and you keep on trying – very Positive!!! You are still my race champion.

I was at Chicagoland Speedway and spent the day in the pits…saw you and danica and tony…very cool….I think you could of won that one…bummer on your car….the guys in the garage dont get enough respect….they were workin their butts off and the tire guys too…I have FULL respect for you as a driver……I AM INDY….this is my fourth year to go to the chicagoland speedway race………..you are awesome and the rest of penske…..all my respect david griner
Sure glad your injury was not worse! You would have made a difference in the Race.

Hi Helio, How’s the foot? Just so happy you are ok. Too bad the result at Chicagoland wasnt a whole lot better for you. Not to worry , you still have 2 races to go and you can still get another win! Whatever else happens, it has been quite a season , a great return to racing, winning the 500 and Texas. You always give us some great memories. Thanks Helio!!!

Had my days mixed up. Thought the race was tonight so I missed it.
Oh well, I saw the results. Glad there are no injuries. Two more chances to get a W!!
Sonoma was tough luck for sure. Hopefully TK will realize that he doesn’t need the entire width of a track to make a right turn.

The Indy 300 in Chicagoland was the first race that I have ever been to. Thanks to you Helio, you helped me become a great fan of yours. Great race last night!!! Outstanding job.

É sempre frustante ver teu carro sendo guinchado…não foi legal ontem, mesmo…
… Fiquei desapontada…mas seguimos em frente porque atrás vem gente…, e correndo…hehe
O mais importante é que tu está bem e que não tinha mais gente perto de ti, poderia ter sido um acidente feio… Espero que esteja tudo bem contigo mesmo, e que teu(s) pé(s) não esteja(m) doendo nem inchado(s)…
Para esse ano, agora não dá mais mesmo…mas 2010 já está logo aí, e está cada vez mais perto o campeonato ser teu…e fazendo um retrospecto do ano…ufa…tu será campeão para sempre, e esse troféu ninguém te tira…
O melhor de tudo é que, se não der nada errado (porque tá meio estranha essa demora excessiva) o campeonato começa no Brasil…uau…mal posso esperar…

Just two more races left. It’s been a wild year for you. You’ve had the highest of highs (Indy, Texas, your return in Long Beach) and the lowest of lows (your trial, your bad luck).
Hopefully, your offseason this year will be a lot easier for you than the last one. And maybe a little quieter too.
Then you’ll come back next and hopefully be the 2010 champion (though you’re already our champion)!

Please tell Kati, Eduardo, and Adriana “Hi”. I hope you remembered to give her the gift from Mid-Ohio. Oh and after reading several articles and interviews about how Adriana has been there for you,I say you should go for it. Those people that stand behind you in the bad as well as the good are not always easy to find. Tom has been there through many bad times. I believe God made him just for me, he has saved my life more than once while I went through bad times with my mother. That relationship ended several years ago. Well it’s the end of the day and you came out of that crash unhurt which is all that matters. We were sorry to it happen when you were racing so well. I have to tell you I freaked out. I’d have to say last weekend freaked me out too, it looked like you were going to flip last weekend. We’re happy that Ryan was able to get around Scott with his last push for a 1st place finish. Oh well, stuff like that happens in racing. Too bad it had to happen when you were racing so well. I’m glad you didn’t get tangled with Dario when your car flew up the wall. I suppose you’ll need another hot soak after this weekend. And at least Ryan was able to hold off Dixon from getting the win. But my favorite part of the race was watching you take the lead as you passed traffic on the high side. What a great driver you are, Helio! Simply the best! I’m looking forward to Twin Ring Motegi. Best wishes for a great finish for you there. Godspeed.

Helio, thank God you were not hurt during that crash tonight!Scared me to death! I’m just sick for you that a technical problem took you out! You drove a fantastic race, and I’m sure it would have been a podium win if the car had not failed. Am keeping postive thoughts for all problems to be solved before Motegi. Hope you can enjoy some R&R for a couple of weeks!
Ew. Tough break tonight. At least Ryan went out and got the victory.
