Three-Time Indianapolis 500 winner and Season 5 “Dancing with the Stars” Champion, Helio Castroneves may be back in the ballroom. This season, as part of the “Design a Dance” program, fans of the popular ABC show will get to call the shots as they vote for their favorite past celebrity to dance again.
By selecting each component — dance, song, celebrity, pro dancer, and costume over a six-week voting period the fans are virtually in control of creating the ultimate audience-designed performance.
Castroneves was selected as one of nine celebrity candidates who’ve participated in the show over the previous eight seasons.
Voting is done online in four stages: the dance and song have already been selected, with viewers choosing the Paso Doble and “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Celebrity voting began (CLICKING HERE TO VOTE) on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:00 pm PST and ends on Tuesday, October 6th and 9:00 a.m. Selection of the professional dancer will be conducted from October 6th - October 13th.

No Twitters either. We are worried. Hopefully you are busy getting the baby’s room ready or plannig a wedding as I have heard that was the natural next step. Adriana is very friendly and easy to talk to as with the rest of your family. They talk to you like you have known them forever. Anyway Adriana makes the perfect match for you, and the baby is going to be a very lucky little girl.

Congrats on a great season, and thanks for providing the wins to celebrate at Indy and Texas! Definately the high point in the racing season [Especially if you consider I'm a Dale Jr fan, too!]. Hadn’t gotten to leave you a note here in a while, but hope the off season finds you getting well rested and ready for another run at a fourth Indy and that elusive championship in 2010. And to the other fans writing here, give Penske Racing a look online or call the gift shop-they may have the calendars again in time for Christmas.

Helio, at our pep rally today, I was thinking of you when our “fun-tastic” band was playing. I recognized “Land of a 1000 Dances”, your freestyle song, almost immediately and I was keeping in tune with the beat as was my new crush whom I was standing close to (his personality reminds me of yours, happy guy, very sweet and nice, and very very mischievious).
I do hope everything is continuing to go well with Adriana’s pregnancy and that you two are having fun preparing for Mikaella’s arrival. And we would love to hear from you. Do give us a blog post when you have time in between getting ready for the 2010 season and your beautiful baby daughter.
Also, did not realize that if she does arrive on her due date she will share a birthday with Gil de Ferran’s daughter. That’s kind of sweet.
Just saw the clip of you teaching the guys at Penske to “spill the coffee” on the Penske site. LOL! At least they all tried even Will. The looks on their faces were hilarious.
Hope you have a great off season (which I’m sure you will). I guess you and Adriana are “nesting” right now. Hope all continues to go well and Mikaella is born healthy and beautiful in January.

If the baby’s sex was determined by ultrasound, it could be wrong. Three friends of mine who were told, by way of a sonogram, they were having a girl were surprised to give birth to a baby boy. All who were told it was boy had a boy. ~smile~

Helio, I hope you have a wonderful off season. I’m sure you’re going to have a good time continuing with your workouts and playing some tennis, playing with Tuggy (who I’m sure is also going to love his “sister”), playing with Eduardo (I’m sure you and Adriana have had a lot of practice with him), enjoying the holidays and your time away from everything, and starting off your year with the arrival of your beautiful baby girl. Definitely a lot more fun than last year.

Back at the Indy 500 I handed you the “Up and Coming Racer” onesie to sign for our grandson Oliver who was to be born the next weekend. When I handed it to you and you said “Is this for me? Oh thank you” (You seemed really excited which I thought was a little odd at the time). CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Tom thought Adriana looked like she had a baby bump when we talked to her, but we thought it would be rude to ask. When we got back to Ohio Tom looked for it on the internet. He came in and told me to “Think Pink”. We are sooo happy for you both and hope to meet this new addition to your family in the future. She is going to be one beautiful little girl, she has a handsome daddy with a great personality and a beautiful sweet mommy. The name you have pick is beautiful and I am sure she is going to be one spoiled little girl. Just read the news about your impending fatherhood in January. Wow…… you really did have a big May!! LOL Very happy for you and Adriana. From 11th to 5th… Not bad, although I’d guess it’s not the finish you would have wanted. But considering how practice went, I think it was very good. Was home in time to see you be interviewed and the replay your wreck in practice. Ouch! Something definately broke in that car. Nothing though was more special than seeing that you were OK (a little sore, but OK) and your big bright smile.
Hopefully that bright smile can be seen from victory lane this afternoon. And Ryan’s the champion. If he ends up being the champion, will you try to convince to climb the fence with you like you did to Gil in ‘03 when he won Indy?

I still think you won Helio. There is no way you and some of the others could’ve had less votes than Sabrina. I’m not bashing her by any means (she was pretty good), but why bring back somebody who has come back to dance before? Also think they should’ve brought back one male and one female celebrity to make it a little more fair.
Maybe they’ll bring you back later this season. If Juju is not too busy, maybe y’all could perform a dance. If not, I’m sure you’ll be there in the audience enjoying yourself.
Oh well. Enough about you being robbed of a chance to dance again. This weekend, it’s on to Homestead and you’re going to help Ryan win his first title while trying to get a win for yourself. Let’s show the F1 teams how a teammate is suppose to help their championship contending teammate win a championship. I know you will not play dirty to help Ryan. He didn’t to help you last year. Nothing would be cooler than to see you about to climb the fence after winning the race and convincing Ryan to join you as a champion (hey, you got Gil to do it in ‘03). I would love to see that.
Speaking of Gil, I hope you get a chance to keep up with ALMS activiities at Leguna Seca. I’m sure you would like to be there supporting him in his final race before he takes on full time ownership and kicking butt with his ALMS and Indy cars next year, but I just know you’ll be there in spirit.
@Chuck in Atlanta: I think it would depend on who wanted to come back or not! We know Helio would love to, but I don’t think Apolo really wants to or has the time. And Emmitt doesn’t seem to really do anything with the show anymore either, where Drew is always back!
That being said, Helio, you should have won this for sure. But hopefully you’ll be able to come back for another dance and actually get to do this one with your Juju!

Really disappointed Helio about Sabrina being the pick but it does prove that season five was the best season so far. Surely someone at DWTS has considered a war of champions and getting all of the winners from each season back together again for a competition. Maybe I want what I want but Julianne needs something to do besides those distressing acne commercials. I’m just saying.
Maybe they needed a cheetah to replace the chimpanzee that was supposed to be on. PETA pursuaded ABC to cancel the chimpanzee, so why not the cheetah?
I’m starting to sound as old and crotchety as Len Goodman and need to take some of my own advice, don’t look at the past, but look to the future.
Have a great race this weekend Helio, I’ll be rooting for you and Briscoe. Ryan is lucky to have you for a teammate cause I believe you will do what you can to help Team Penske win.
Absolutely no mention of how many total votes cast, runner-up, close call…absolutely nothing about the votes. So they don’t close down the voting to almost noon on Tuesday (see 3SimplyTheBest post) and Sabrina was just conveniently able to be on the show within hours of closing down the voting. I don’t think so. Hmmm, this just doesn’t add up, but Helio you are welcome to set me straight.
I was SOOOOOOO disappointed it wasn’t you picked to dance again. I voted and voted and voted until they closed the voting down. I couldn’t believe Sabrina got more votes than you.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to come back to DWTS at some point anyway. We’d all love to see you dance again!

Helio, I’m so disappointed! I find it a little strange that Sabrina won, too. Mel B and Gilles had huge support on the DWTS forum the last week. I was really, really hoping that Gilles would win if Helio couldn’t.
Strange isn’t it that Sabrina won ? Are the Cheeta Girls even a group anymore ? I’m really surprised she had enough fans to vote her in. Not anything against her. I’m sure she will be great, but it won’t be as much fun to watch. If it wasn’t Helio, I would have rather seen Mel B, Joey Fatone or Drew.

A friend of ours road in an IndyCar at the Walt Disney World Speedway in March. Arie Lyundyk Jr was driving too.
After she road, my best friend and I got a picture with Arie (BTW, he said he thought it was cool that I was in an Helio T-shirt).

I thought I’d let you know how our Indy car driving weekend went. Well for me it was disappointing in a way. I didn’t get to drive because I’m to short to reach the peddles(only 5ft). They put as much padding as they could behind me. Well I also couldn’t see the road. I did however get to ride in a double seater and got to go a little over 200 mph. I don’t know how you do it I was dizzy and a little nauseous. Tom did get to drive and got up to speeds over 177 mph. He said it was a scary 177 mph. When I saw that saftey wall barrier it really didn’t look all that safe. There was a 78 year old guy out there driving.He went 133 mph. I thought that was great. Anyway I did have fun even if I didn’t get to drive and Tom was really excited.
We always had respect for what all you do out there on the race track,I just think this took our respect to an all new level. Thanks for doing what you do out there, but please be safe too. I now know what going around The Kentucky Speedway at over 200 mph feels like. It feels like an endless circle. Take Care.

I hope the Brazilian Olympic Committee and the government will enlist Helio, TK and others as promotional international ambassadors for the games. While it’s disappointing for Chicgo, most people are very happy for Brazil!!

Would it be possible to add to the IndyCar site the fact that we can vote for Helio as many times as we wish, not just one time, so we can get the vote total as large as possible?

My hand is numb from voting so many times. Tom is voting also and I have asked relatives and friends to vote also. Your gonna win if I have to stay up all night over the weekend. Well I guess I better not stay up all night Friday night, since Tom and I are going to Kentucky Speedway for a class on Saturday on how to drive Indy cars. Then we get to drive them up to 140-160 mph. Can’t wait. I just hope I’m alive to see the race at Homestead the next weekend.
