Helio Castroneves wins the pole position for the 2010 Indy 500.
Now, the Brazilian driver holds 38 starts in the pole position in the IRL, including four at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
(Indianapolis, USA) Helio Castroneves wrote one page of great significance in his career’s 13 seasons in the IZOD Indycar Series. He secured the pole for the main race of the calendar for the fourth time and went on to score his 38th pole position. This year’s new INDY 500 qualifying format also awarded Castroneves with 15 points towards the championship, passing to the second position, now with 177 points.
Fulfilled the first phase of Pole Day, Castroneves secured provisional pole position by indicating the average 226.774 mph on his second attempt.
“The Fast Nine” composed: Helio Castroneves, Alex Tagliani, Dario Franchitti, Will Power, Scott Dixon, Graham Rahal, Hideki Mutoh Ryan Briscoe and Ed Carpenter.
Castroneves noted in the first minutes of this final phase averaged 227.970 mph, 228.213 mph with a peak in the second of four turns. After that he followed the rest of the qualifying in the car, under the sunny afternoon in Indianapolis. Thus, the end of nearly an hour and a half maximum concentration, Castroneves could celebrate one that certainly was the most agonizing and tiring pole position of his career.
