Helio Castroneves’ birthday is today, but the attention is all for the Indy 500
The Brazilian driver turns 35 years today, on this Monday, May 10, but the gift he really wants is on the 30th of May, the day of the biggest espectacule on racing, the INDY 500!
(Sao Paulo, Brazil – Monday, May 10, 2010) Brazilian driver Helio Castroneves of Team Penske Indycar, is turning 25 this Monday. Born in the São Paulo neighborhood of Perdizes on May 10, 1975, he moved with his family to Ribeirão Preto.
As has happened since 2001, Castroneves celebrates his birthday in full preparation for the Indy 500, which will be raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 30. The difference this year is that the activities ontrack will start on Sunday, 16, forcing this celebration day to be consumed by work in the backstage.
“Since 2001 is the same thing, I always celebrate my birthday on the climate of the Indy 500. Today, I do not think either party and on gifts. Attention is focused throughout the race and I really want to win this on the 30th because my goal is to win the Indy 500 for the fourth time. Let’s GO!! ” Summed up the driver, who has won the most important event of the calendar in years 2001, 2002 and 2009.

(São Paulo, Brasil – Segunda-feira, 10 de maio de 2010) O piloto brasileiro Helio Castroneves, do Team Penske de Fórmula Indy, está completando nesta segunda-feira 35 anos. Nascido no bairro paulistano de Perdizes no dia 10 de maio de 1975, mudou-se com a família para Ribeirão Preto.
Como tem acontecido desde 2001, Castroneves comemora seu aniversário em plena preparação para a Indy 500, que será disputada no Indianapolis Motor Speedway no dia 30 de maio. A diferença deste ano é que as atividades de pista só terão início no domingo, 16, de modo que o dia festivo está sendo consumido pelos trabalhos de bastidores.
“Desde 2001 é a mesma coisa, eu sempre comemoro o meu aniversário no clima da Indy 500. Hoje, eu não quero pensar em festa e nem em presentes. A atenção está toda voltada para a prova e quero mesmo ganhar o meu presente no dia 30, pois meu objetivo é vencer a Indy 500 pela quarta vez. E vamos que vamos!”, resumiu o piloto, que já venceu a mais importante prova do calendário em 2001, 2002 e 2009.

Congratulations on the Pole at Indy. I just wanted to Thank you for being such a great guy. My family and i are huge fans and we came down to the Winner’s Circle to watch the check presentations and interviews. We stayed until after the last interview and even though it was a long day for you and I am sure you were ready to get back to your RV and relax, you took the time to come around to the crowd an sign autographs. You didn’t have to do it, but you did and that si what makes you such a classy guy. I really appreciate you doing that, it was the highlight of the day for my family and I good luck in the race on Sunday. He will be cheering for you.

Hola Helio, Happy Birthday as I wait for the Indy 500 once again. I must tell you how proud I am to know who you are. You were safely in second place and could have waited for the fast nine but second place is not where you want to be. I am humbled by your courage and drive when we live in a world where many settle for second best in sports and other professions. Thank you for pointing the way to excellence and for the lesson in humble leadership you have provided. I will be glued to my seat race day and back in the bleachers next year by G*ds grace. I now know to get to the autograph session really early because I was in the wrong line a couple of years ago.

Congratulations on winning the pole – again! I was watching the Pole Day action on tivo…but after seeing you run that great first run in the second session I couldn’t stop myself from checking out “live” news and seeing that you won. It made watching the rest of the tivo far less stressful. Good luck and stay safe in the race..I’ll be there to watch you race for #4!

I can see it Helio every time I read an article about you chasing 500 #4. You have that fire inside. You want that win so bad you can taste it. And don’t think it’s the history aspect or anything like that. You just want to want to bring that precious baby girl of yours into victory lane.

Helio signed several hundred autographs after today’s 500 practice session – many were from kids from Smoky Row Elementary (who I came to chaperone) and one was for my 10 yo autistic son who is just discovering racing. He tracked Helio for almost an hour, each lap, seeing how fast he went and doing the math homework that was part of our trip….and then for the first time in his life had the courage to go down where there would eventually be a crowd, hat help high and sharpie ready. And he stuck it out and was rewarded. Helio didn’t have to do that or have some kind work for my son, but he did. My son will float on air for weeks (he told me it was “the best day of his life”).
Just want to say that being a good guy matters Helio. I know we will be rooting for you strongly on race day – be safe and WIN!!

Happy Belated Birthday Helio!! Hope you had a good one! Can Penske Racing tell me the date Helio and others will be in NYC at Macy’s Herald Square this year?? I have seen conflicting dates and I want to be sure to know exactly when so I can be there. Thanks in advance
