Helio Castroneves was one of the leaders of the complete domination by Team Penske in the Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway, on Sunday. Since the practices, Roger Penske’s group had a great competition and the final result of the 13th race of the IZOD IndyCar Series ratified this condition. It was a 100% Team Penske podium with Will Power’s victory, Helio Castroneves in 2nd, and Ryan Briscoe in 3rd.

“The Team Penske car was great all weekend. Immediately out of the transporter when we started practice, all three Team Penske cars were fantastic. I have to give credit to Will (Power) and the engineers for bringing us information from the test here last week”.

Castroneves remembered that “the last few races I have really struggled and my engineers were able to put their heads together and connect the missing pieces and we had a great result today. The Team Penske sweep shows how strong our team is and I am really happy for us. I certainly wanted to win, but Will was in a class of his own today and when you look at his lap times in practice and qualifying you knew he would be strong. I was really pushing it during the race and I thought with the help of traffic I may be able to gain on him. He saved enough push to passes for the end of the race to take advantage of it and he was the winner. We were both trying to save our tires but he had enough at the end to bring it home. I was really excited to try a battle to the end with Will and I, but he had the upper hand today and I am happy for him”.

A prova terá largada às 17h45 (horário oficial de Brasília) e 75 voltas.

De fato, pela evolução do #3 GuidePoint Systems Team Penske Dallara Honda durante os treinos livres, o piloto brasileiro estava otimista para a corrida no oval de 1 milha de Loudon, NH. Entretanto, sofreu uma escapada de pista na segunda relargada, com danos à suspensão traseira direita. Foram necessárias algumas voltas nos pits e, ao final, recebeu a bandeirada de chegada em 17º e com 13 voltas de atraso.

“É lamentável que tenha pego alguma turbulência no início da corrida, rodado e batido no muro, o que nos custou muitas voltas. Meu mecânicos fizeram excelente trabalho e pude voltar para a pista. Definitivamente, o carro estava em condições de chegar entre os 10 primeiros”, lamentou.

The Honda Indy 200, 11th stage of the IZOD IndyCar Series at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, was disappointing for Helio Castroneves. After qualifying with balance problems in the Team Penske Dallara Honda and starting back in 15th position, the Brazilian driver took the checkered flag in 19th place finish, due to an accident.

“I am really frustrated. We worked hard throughout the weekend and finally got to where we wanted”, Castroneves said, referring to the better setup after job from Saturday to Sunday and evident with the 6th time in free practice on Sunday morning.

“But there was confusion in restart again”, referring to the accident in which the Venezuelan Ernesto Viso touched the back of the American JR Hildebrand, who spun and collected Helio’s car, who was just behind.

“I try to stay out of trouble, but somehow the problems seem to find me”, he regrets. The championship will continue next Sunday, August 14, in New Hampshire Motor Speedway oval.

Após um Qualifying com problemas de equilíbrio no Dallara Honda do Team Penske e largar em 15º, o piloto brasileiro recebeu a bandeirada de chegada em 19º, prejudicado por um acidente.

“Estou realmente muito frustrado. Nós trabalhamos duro durante todo o final de semana e finalmente chegamos onde queríamos”, disse Castroneves ao se referir ao bom acerto conseguido de sábado para domingo e que ficou evidente com o 6º tempo no treino livre da manhã de domingo.

“Mas na relargada houve confusão novamente”, referindo-se ao acidente em que o venezuelano Ernesto Viso tocou na traseira do norte-americano J.R. Hildebrand, que rodou e colheu o carro de Castroneves, que vinha logo atrás.

“Eu tento ficar longe dos problemas, mas de alguma forma os problemas parecem me encontrar”, lamentou. O campeonato terá sequência no próximo domingo, 14 de agosto, no oval do New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
