Helio Castroneves was one of the highlights of the São Paulo Indy 300 this past Sunday, April 29th on the streets of São Paulo, Brazil. After an unfortunate accident during Saturday’s practice, which landed him a 20 place start, the Team Penske driver adopted a bold strategy allowing him to pass and finish the fourth race of the season in fourth place.

The fourth place finish results keeps Helio in second place in the point standings, being only behind Will Power, the Australian who is Helio’s teammate, won the Brazil race for the third time in a row. Power has 180 points, while Helio has 135.

After starting the race with caution, Helio maintained a steady rhythm and a three-stop strategy. This additional time used during the pits, was offset by speed and gaining of positions on the track and efficiency by the mechanics during the stops. For the three time Indy 500 champion it was a 4th place finish with a taste of victory.

“I mentioned before and will emphasize again, that the curb’s at the “S” of Samba are too high. If it was not for this issue, I might have avoided the accident on Saturday, which affected my performance in qualifying.” said Castroneves who then concluded that: “The results allowed me to celebrate for all the good moments. I started so far back, avoided all the accidents, and was able to maintain a strong and steady pace, and my team was amazing in the pits”.

O resultado permitiu que ele mantivesse a vice-liderença do campeonato, atrás apenas de Will Power, o seu companheiro de equipe australiano que venceu pela terceira vez consecutiva no Brasil. Power tem 180 pontos, contra 135 do brasileiro.

Depois de largar com bastante cautela, Castroneves imprimiu um ritmo forte e adotou a estratégia de três paradas. Esse tempo adicional no pit foi compensado com uma tocada forte, com ganho de posições importantes na pista e eficiência de seus mecânicos nos pits. “Eu já falei e volto a repetir. As zebras do “S do Samba” são muito altas. Não fosse isso, talvez eu tivesse conseguido evitar o acidente do sábado, que prejudicou minha performance no Qualifying. Enfim …”, disse o recordista brasileiro de vitórias na Indy, que completou: “Foi um resultado para festejar pela somatória de bons momentos. Consegui sair lá de trás, evitei os acidentes, pude manter um ritmo forte e minha equipe foi demais no pit”.

Depois de um ganho de performance entre o primeiro e segundo treinos livres, um acidente nessa última prática resultou em danos para a suspensão traseira do Penske Logistics Dallara DW12 Chevrolet V6 #3.

Embora os mecânicos do Team Penske tenham trabalhado rápido e trocado todo o sistema no tempo necessário para que o vice-líder do campeonato participasse do Qualifying, faltou tempo para os ajustes necessários. Isso comprometeu o equilíbrio do carro e o piloto brasileiro optou por não correr riscos de um novo acidente.

“Começamos os trabalhos muito bem, com o carro melhorando com os testes de molas e amortecedores que fizemos. O acidente no Practice 2 foi uma pena, mas poderia ter sido evitados se as zebras não fossem tão altas”, disse Castroneves, ressaltando que o trabalho que foi feito seguiu a orientação da IndyCar, que optou por esse modelo de zebra. “Para amanhã, o negócio é partir para cima. Na minha situação atual, eu prefiro que chova”, finalizou.

Na reunião entre os pilotos e a direção de prova, foi anunciado que está sendo estudada a possibilidade de a largada acontecer ao meio dia, significando a antecipação em 30 minutos. O motivo é a perspectiva de chuva, mas a confirmação ocorrerá apenas no domingo, com a atualização da previsão do tempo.

The young Mauricio, an eight year old Brazilian boy, had one of his dreams come true this past Thursday, when he met his idol Helio Castroneves. While Mauricio held on to his replica diecast of Team Penske’s Dallara Honda Shell V-Power car, Helio showed him all the details of his Dallara DW12 Chevrolet car and allowed him to sit inside the cockpit of the car.

It was a special moment, not only for the young fan, but for the three time Indy 500 champion and all of the guests involved as well. Helio gifted Mauricio with his book “Road to Victory”; encouraging the boy to dedicate himself to his studies and development and most importantly to reach and make other dreams of his come true, since the one to meet Helio was fulfilled.

O jovem brasileiro Maurício, de oito anos de idade, realizou nesta quinta-feira um grande sonho, que era o de conhecer o seu ídolo Helio Castroneves. Tendo em suas mãos uma miniatura do Dallara Honda Shell V-Power do Team Penske, Maurício foi recebido por Castroneves, que mostrou detalhes do seu Dallara DW12 Chevrolet, inclusive permitindo que o garoto ocupasse o cockpit do carro.

Foi um momento de grande emoção não apenas para o jovem fã, mas também para o tricampeão da Indy 500 e para todos os que estiveram presentes. Maurício ganhou de presente de Castroneves o seu livro “O Caminho da Vitória” e incentivou o garoto a estudar bastante, dedicar-se ao seu desenvolvimento e, principalmente, buscar realizar outros sonhos, uma vez que o de conhecer Castroneves foi realizado na etapa da IndyCar no Brasil.

Está confirmado para esta terça-feira, dia 24, o lançamento de mais um equipamento itinerante da Prefeitura de Ribeirão Preto. Depois do sucesso que é o Dr. Móvel, que leva atendimento médico às regiões distantes das Unidades de Saúde, agora é a vez da Brinquedoteca itinerante. O evento acontece às 15h00 na Praça Chico Mendes (Avenida Luzitânia), no Parque Ribeirão.

Para viabilizar este projeto, a Prefeitura contou com o apoio do piloto Helio Castroneves, que doou o veículo e intermediou, junto à empresa Rontan, as adaptações necessárias para transformá-lo numa brinquedoteca. “Mais uma vez o piloto Helio Castroneves nos ajuda em uma ação de interesse da comunidade ribeirão-pretana”, agradeceu a prefeita Dárcy Vera.

Preocupado com as investidas do piloto inglês, o piloto do Team Penske não percebeu a diminuída de ritmo à frente e não conseguiu evitar o toque contra o carro de Barrichello.

No engavetamento que se seguiu, acabou ficando em 10º, mas caiu para 13º após ter sido considerado culpado pelos comissários da prova e ter acrescido 30s ao seu tempo de prova. “Esse final de semana foi todo complicado e foi uma pena o que aconteceu na última volta. Eu não concordo com a punição porque não tive culpa alguma, foi mesmo um desses incidentes de corrida”, disse Castroneves, que ocupa agora a vice liderança do campeonato. “Mas corrida é assim mesmo, vamos levantar a cabeça e seguir em frente bastante motivado, principalmente porque a próxima prova é no Brasil”, declarou o três vezes vencedor da Indy 500, referindo-se a São Paulo Indy 300 no próximo dia 29 de abril.
