Helio Castroneves will start in 5th place on Sunday, 22 in Edmonton, Canada, at the 11th race of the IZOD IndyCar Series. Third place overall, the driver of the Team Penske had the best grid position among the contenders for the title, leaving behind leader Ryan Hunter-Reay and vice Will Power, respectively, 11 and 17 on the grid.
Although he couldn’t repeat the performance the previous day, when he was the fastest in practice, Castroneves began his journey towards the top positions on the grid with the 4th time (1min16s8429) in the first stage of Qualifying, when aligned in Group 2.
In Q2, with the times much higher because of rain in Edmonton, the driver of the #3 Chevrolet Dallara DW12 marked the 2nd best time, with 1min27s1590. Guaranteed in the Fast Six, he closed the final stage of Qualifying in 6th by scoring 1min17s6401. The position gain (to 5th) was caused by the penalty imposed on Hunter-Reay (10 grid positions for engine change), which fell to the 11th position.
The green flag for Sunday’s race will take place from 1:45 in Canada time (2:45 EST and 15:45 in Brazil). There will be 75 laps of the 13 turn circuit and 2.24 miles long.
