As atividades dessa sexta-feira em Baltimore foram prejudicadas por problemas na pista e, na somatória dos dois reduzidos treinos livres, Helio Castroneves só pôde completar 13 voltas, o que lhe valeu a 12ª posição no cômputo geral.

Na parte da manhã, os preparativos para o Grand Prix of Baltimore, 14ª e penúltima etapa do IZOD IndyCar Series, resumiram-se a três voltas. A bandeira vermelha foi necessária para que fosse estudada uma solução por parte dos pilotos, direção de prova e organização.

A travessia dos trilhos de trem que cruzam a pista, num bump de grande intensidade, constituiu-se no problema mais grave, embora ondulações também estivessem presentes em outros pontos do circuito urbano.

Na área dos trilhos, a idéia de raspar o local foi substituída por uma chicane improvisada de pneus, que foi aprovada no segundo treino livre, reduzido à metade (30 minutos). Na noite de hoje, a organização trabalhará numa chicane definitiva.

“Foi uma pena o que aconteceu hoje aqui em Baltimore. Esses problemas da pista já deveriam ter sido sanados, mas infelizmente a programação de testes não pôde ser cumprida como a gente esperava, pois o tempo na pista foi muito curto. Por outro lado, foi uma decisão acertada interromper o Practice 1 para evitar um acidente mais grave. Espero que amanhã (sábado) a gente consiga ter um dia normal de trabalho”, disse Castroneves

Após a surpreendente recuperação em Sonoma, quando chegou a estar em 26º e concluiu em 6º, Helio Castroneves iniciará nesta sexta-feira, 31 de agosto, os preparativos para o Grand Prix of Baltimore, 14ª e penúltima etapa do IZOD IndyCar Series. Ocupando o 3º lugar na classificação geral, o piloto do Team Penske está na luta direta pelo título.

“Teremos uma prova muito emocionante em Baltimore porque, além das características sempre especiais de um circuito de rua como esse, a disputa pelo título está muito forte e vou fazer o meu melhor para ampliar minhas chances de ser campeão na última corrida, em Fontana”, disse Castroneves.

An accident with Scott Dixon in the first lap could have finished the race with Helio Castroneves in Sonoma on Sunday, but the Brazilian was able to reverse the negative. After dropping to the 26th position, climbed positions consistently and finished on 6th in the 13th race and penultimate stage of the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series. This gain of 20 positions not only was one of the main highlights of the Californian race but mainly kept the driver for Team Penske in direct competition for the title, and remained in 3rd place overall.

Castroneves not fazed by losing his original position on the grid (4) to Scott Dixon when the green flag waved, starting to recover even in the first lap. Esse ganho de 20 posições não somente foi um dos principais destaques da corrida californiana como, principalmente, manteve o piloto do Team Penske na disputa direta pelo título, tendo permanecido na 3º colocação da classificação geral.

Castroneves não se intimidou ao perder sua posição original no grid (4º) para Scott Dixon, quando da bandeira verde, partindo para a recuperação ainda na primeira volta. Sua ação foi coroada de êxito, mas os comissários da IndyCar não entenderam da mesma forma, pois os carros se tocaram e o três vezes vencedor da Indy 500 foi considerado responsável pela manobra, que resultou numa rodada do piloto da Chip Ganassi Racing.

Cumprido o Drive Through na volta 3, Castroneves retornou em 21º e caiu mais ainda – para 26º – após o pit da 14ª volta. A partir disso, empreendeu uma estratégia de recuperação e era o 18º no pit da volta de número 38. Quanto parou para troca de pneus e reabastecimento pela última vez (volta 62), ocupava a 12ª posição. Desse ponto da corrida até a bandeirada final, só evoluiu na classificação e recebeu a bandeirada em 6º.

Em termos de campeonato, as posições finais não se alteraram, pois a liderança continua com Will Power (2º em Sonoma na vitória de Ryan Briscoe, companheiros de Castroneves no Team Penske), seguido por Ryan Hunter-Reay (18º na corrida) e Castroneves.

“Vou ser sincero, não estou feliz com o resultado de hoje. Tinha chances de lutar pela vitória e o acidente da primeira volta, com o Dixon, complicou bastante minha corrida. Não vou discutir se o Drive Through foi correto ou não, mas realmente tenho minhas dúvidas. Para mim foi um lance de corrida, mas isso acontece e, se a gente olhar pelo outro lado, terminar em 6º depois de cair para último, até que foi legal. Continuo firme e forte na briga pelo título. Agora ficou um pouco mais trabalhoso, mas vamos pra cima atrás desse caneco”, garantiu o piloto do Dallara DW12 Chevrolet #3.
A penúltima prova será no próximo domingo, 2 de setembro, no circuito de rua de Baltimore, estando reservadas as emoções da decisão para Fontana, CA, nas 500 milhas do oval Auto Club Speedway, no dia 15 de setembro.

Depois de vencer a edição 2007 do Dancing With The Stars, ao lado da dançarina e atriz Julienne Hough, Helio Castroneves retornará ao show da ABC dividindo o palco com a dançarina e coreógrafa Chelsie Hightower. A dupla participará da temporada All-Stars, cujo início está marcado para o dia 24 de setembro.

Nascida em Las Vegas, Chelsie tem 23 anos e já participou de seis temporadas do Dancing With The Stars como professora, coreógrafa e parceira de nomes como Ty Murray, Louie Vito, Jake Pavelka, Michael Bolton, Romeo Miller e Roshon Fegan.

“Estou muito empolgado em voltar ao show nesta temporada All-Stars e fico muito honrado em trabalhar com a Chelsie, que é uma dançarina maravilhosa. After winning the 2007 edition of Dancing With The Stars, alongside the dancer and actress Julianne Hough, Helio Castroneves returns to the ABC show sharing the stage with choreographer and dancer, Chelsie Hightower.

The pair will attend the All-Stars season, scheduled to begin September 24.

Born in Las Vegas, Chelsie is 23 and has participated in six seasons of Dancing With The Stars as a pro dancer, choreographer and partnered to names like Ty Murray, Louie Vito, Jake Pavelka, Michael Bolton, Romeo Miller and Roshon Fegan.

“I am very excited to return to the show for this All-Stars season and I am very honored to work with Chelsie, which is a wonderful dancer.
