VICTORY ROAD: The Ride of My Life

by Helio Castroneves - Foreword by Roger Penske

This is a book about a DREAM. As a young boy in Brazil, you either want to be the next Pele or the next Ayrton Senna. I wanted to be Senna.

I got my first go-kart when I was 11 and I never looked back. When I was 14, my father realized that I had the talent and my dream became his dream...it became the FAMILY DREAM.

This is a story of UPS AND DOWNS. My father went bankrupt funding my career, my sister was a professional ballerina and she quit to become my manager. No matter what, they were behind me through every defeat and every victory. They are the reason I was able to realize my dream.

It is a book about CLIMBING TO THE TOP BOTH ON AND OFF THE TRACK. I tell of my early racing days, my time on Dancing with the Stars, something that I did that was outside my comfort zone, my most thrilling wins and worst defeats, the trial, which was the first time I was forced to slow down, stop and look back; and off course, the birth of my daughter.

My story is one of incredible ups and downs. And I have realized that THE DOWNS HAVE MADE ME WHO I AM TODAY. They have brought me to this amazing moment in my life.

DURING THE DOWN TIMES YOU FIND OUT WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE...AND YOU FIND OUT WHO YOU ARE.

It is a story of everybody's lives, everyone has Highs and lows and we have to keep the faith and always look forward.

Excerpts from the book

"When so many of our friends have stopped calling, e-mailing, and texting, Howard and Sharon pickup the slack. We become siblings - we spend our weekends together, we adopt each other's religions, and I need to talk to someone at three in the morning, I dial their number." Chapter 13: Preparation. Page 232
